Tilicho Trekking

This trekking is a Trans - Himalaya adventure and leads to the highest situated lakes. The Tilicho Lake is located 4919 meters above the sea-level in Central Himalaya. This trekking leads you through two mountain passes which are the least visited in Nepal. You will hike up to 5500 meters and you are going to have the best view on the Manaslu, the Himchuli and many other mountains. The way down brings you through thick jungle towards the Tilicho base camp. At the end you will reach the Mesokanto La Pass, one of the most difficult passes of Nepal.

1. Day - Departure Europe

2. Day - Arrival Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel

3. Day - Sightseeing Kathmandu

4. Day - Drive to Dharapani (1900 MASL)

The drive with the bus takes about 5 hours and continue to Dharapani by Jeep

5. Day - Dharapani – Chame (2670 MASL)

Today you will hike through pine forest to Chame, the main place of the Manang district. You will have the possibility to see the Annapurna II (7931 MASL) and the Manasalu (8156 MASL). At the other side of the village, at the river there, is a hot spring. If the current of the river during the monsoon period was not to strong you will be able to bath there.

6. Day - Chame – Pisang (3200 MASL)

The path today leads to Pisang. There you will have a good view on the Annapurna II, III, IV, the Tilicho Peak and the Pisang Peak. Pisang is parted into two, upon your arrival you will have the possibility to look around in the upper part, where the local people live. In the lower part are the trekking lodges.

7. Day - Pisang – Manang (3500 MASL)

Today’s hike takes you to Manang. You will have two different ways to choose. The easier one leads through the valley via Hongde, where an airport is located. The first part of the other way is steeper and takes longer; therefore the view from the peak is awesome.

8. Day - Acclimatization day

Your guide will do a daytrip with you. This can be towards the Gangapurna Lake or to the other side of the valley up to a monastery.

9. Day - Manang – Khangsar (3740 MASL)

The route leads towards the Tilicho Lake to Khangsar, which is the highest village of this valley.

10. Day - Khangsar – Tilicho base camp (4150 MASL)

The path on the left side of the Tilicho Valley leads towards the Tilicho base camp. Most of the times there is a lodging available, if not your guide will organize a tent. The path often chances since a glacier moraine has to be crossed.

11. Day - Tilicho base camp – Tilicho Khola base camp (4990 MASL)

Today the path goes up in zigzag to Tilicho Lake (4920 MASL). It continues to the southern camp at the Tilicho, where lunch will be prepared. Afterwards it goes on to the Tilicho Khola base camp, where you will be staying through the night.

12. Day - Tilicho Khola base camp – Northcamp (4940 MASL)

Today the hike starts early towards Tilicho north camp since the wind is not that heavy then. On your way you will pass the High camp (5240 MASL) and the Eastern pass (5340 MASL).

13. Day - Tilicho Northcamp – Chaurikharka (4200 MASL)

Early in the morning you will start your hike over the Mesokanto La pass (5120 MASL) towards Chaurikharka. Once you look to the west while hiking you will see the Tilicho Peak nearby.

14. Day - Chaurikharka – Jomsom (2780 MASL)

Today the route leads downwards to Jomsom. This is the most important village of the region. The small airport connects the region with Pokhara.

15. Day - Flight to Pokhara

17. Day Drive to Kathmandu

18. Day - Depature from Kathmandu
Flexible daily routine

The daily routines described must be considered somewhat flexible, as they are adapted to local conditions (weather, new paths, etc.) as well as to your constitution. Your guide will plan and discuss the next day with you in the evening.

Requirements

You will find the level of difficulty and the type of accommodation of each journey in the program.

Equipment

You are going to get an equipment list as recommendation together with your travel documents. The equipment for a tent trekking (tent, mattresses etc.) will be organized locally.

Luggage

You are allowed to check in 20 kg as well as you can take 5 kg of hand luggage with you. If you would like to travel with a trolley case, we kindly ask you to take an additional big backpack with you. Luggage which you do not need while trekking can be deposit for free in Kathmandu.

Entry

For the entry to Nepal you need a passport which is valid further than 6 month after your departure date. You will receive your visa upon your arrival at the airport in Kathmandu. You will be told about the visa expenses while booking, since the fee changes from time to time.

Health

Himalaya Trekking suggests seeing your doctor or a tropical doctor as early as possible so you will be informed about current provisions regarding injections. Pharmacy or a doctor will help you regarding your personal trip first aid travel kit.

Group size

Himalaya Trekking guarantees for every tour. We do not have any minimum size for a group, but we do have a maximum of 12 persons per tour.

Tour program

The daily program should be seen as very flexible since we have to consider the local circumstances as well as your physical condition. Your guide will plan with you every evening the next day.

Travel documents

You are going to receive the detailed travel documents with general information as well as your flight tickets 2 to 3 weeks before departure.

Tipping

The tip for the local guides and carrier are not included in the travel costs. It is common to tip them for a good performance.

Accommodation and meals

The overnight stays in Kathmandu and Pokhara will be in a middle class hotel. The restaurants can be chosen individually, as lunch and dinner are not included in the travel costs.

During a lodge trekking the hike will be trough village to village. You will stay overnight in a basic hostel and you are going to have your meals there or in a restaurant on the way. During the camp trekking you are going to stay in one man or two-person tents and all the meals will be provided by private cook.

Insurance

Himalaya Trekking recommends having travel insurance as well as a cancellation protection. We also recommend having a copy of your police with you.

Climate

The weather in Nepal is nice. The summer is together with the monsoon season from June to October, the rest of the year is dry. There is mild climate in the Kathmandu valley, during the summer time around 20-30°C and in the winter time around 0-15°C.

Please consider the climate for your travelling plans, since the county covers a height form 75 MASL to 8848 MASL. Therefor the climate changes and if you are in the wrong place to the wrong time you will probably not see the Himalaya. However there still is a suited journey for every time period!
